La Sonora Matancera

La Sonora Matancera

This album has been “on loan” from my high school Spanish teacher for over 25 years now. Mr. E., if you’re reading this, drop me a line and I’ll send it back to you.

To my small-town Ohio ears, La Sonora Matancera sounded exotic, like tuning in to a distant A.M. radio station on the short wave. It made me feel like I was missing out on something and I wanted to see what it was. And in that sense, it was profoundly influential on my life.

The cover alone pique my interest! I too have liked music like this ever since I was a small boy growing up in a small Kansas town, it’s sounded so distant and exotic and festive. Thanks for the share.

My small town was in South Carolina. I don’t think it really mattered that much, though, where they were. It was the fact that they weren’t New York, LA or Chicago that allowed us to put our imaginations to such good use.

I agree, too, that the cover is one heck of an interest piquer-upper! Talk about feeling like you’re missing out on something and wanting to see what it is…

Dear friend I have been looking for this record for a long time. I was born in Mexico City. I listen to this music as a child but not just any body would listen to this music. In the town where I grew up only certain people have the ear for this music. If you like this music I must congratulate you and let you know I am so impressed specially if you are a white American, I finished growing up in California and never seen people that like this music. Congratulations and thank you for sharing. There is a song Called “lindo omelenko” so good !
