2nd Anniversary Box Set Bash

This one has been weeks in the making folks. To celebrate the two year anniversary of Thrift Store DJ this month, I give you … a complete box set! You know, normally when you run across box sets at the thrift store, they are usually missing records, or maybe they have some other records mixed in. And 95% of the time, they are of the Reader’s Digest variety. But recently I stumbled on this complete box set, and it’s one I’ve never actually seen before. The Latin Brass album was an early post on the site, so I figured this would be a great candidate for an anniversary post. There is something for everyone here, exotica, jazz, classical, honky-tonk piano. If you like the Command label records, these should be right up your alley as they are clearly aimed at that crowd. The records are split up below, so feel free to take what you want or grab it all. In-line samples also included (except for the classical album).

Holy Cow! I’ve always wanted to find this box set! I actually have one of the records (Percussion Classics) and now here they all are.

Thanks for posting the whole thing together and I invite you over to Hooked On Stereophonic for another box set! Monday (8/17) I am going to post all 10 volumes of The Capitol Stereo Showcase. We’ll drown the internet with music!

Thanks so much for posting this. I know it’s a hard slog to get a whole box set done, but it’s worth it in the end!

Whoa!!! Hang on!!! I want to thank you for posting the entire set as well. I have had a couple of these myself but always wanted to see and hear the entire set.

It truly is a piece of work to get an entire box set ripped and uploaded, so THANK you so very much. Love your site and appreciate all you posts.

Thanks for the kind comments! Glad to know the hard work is enjoyed and appreciated. Can’t wait to see the Capitol box set.

There is actually ANOTHER box set of these “percussion” records that deals with more international music…”Percussive Music from the Spanish Bullring.” (Well, I made that up, but you get the idea). I’d love to get my hands on that set too.

You weren’t kidding about the “special anniversary surprise!”
By the way, all or most of these Directional Sound LPs were supposedly done by Francis Bay (Belgium) under a pseudonym. Did they give an artists’s name on the cover?

You are correct sir. I think 3 or 4 of these are listed as “John Evans” a.k.a. Francis Bay. In my opinion, his records are the real highlights in this set.

You can see the artist names if you play the MP3 samples. They are also in the tags.

My deepest thanks for posting this collection that made us dance back then and relax back now! I had the John Evans “Latin Brass” LP but it was too scratchy to enjoy, but thanks to you guys I can enjoy this and more!Excellent site!

Thanks DJ man. I have a few of the Dynamic Directional Stereo Albums, but I have always found them to be “hits or misses”. Some of the albums have had great tunes on them… some not so much. Some I’ve past on, just basing it on the title (which doesn’t always seem to cover all the tunes on the album). Thanks for sharing a slug of them all at one time. Now I can preview them without having to guess whether I will like my purchase or not.

Just can’t say thank you enuf! This site is awesome and this Boxed Set is the bomb! :) It’s almost all you need in a library! (just kidding, cause as a collector of exotica, moog, instrumental pop, ect., you can never have enuf!) But it does cover so many genres that it would be a great start for someone just starting out! This really is a beautiful set and I just really wanted you to know how much it is appreciated! Great job!
